First day for the project was a total bust. The rain made it impossible to navigate outside of the protection of the highway. I captured a few images but

ended up leaving.

Much nicer weather today - the sun is shining and its hot. The sky has a thick haze because of the heat and wildfires coming from Canada. I will not bother

getting images under the bridge, I'm going straight to the train tracks.

Had to stop before heading up. The sound under the highway is unreal! You can hear every little bump from the cars above. Its reverberating across the

landscape and bouncing off the concrete columns. Recording sound now while I write this. *Zoom track 006.

Few images in and I'm feeling it. The confidence is kicking in. The light is unreal but I am a little nervous. There is clear signs of homeless encampments

in the area. Tons of needles strewn about, clothing, blankets, food, human waste. Its not a pleasant place to be. I am still under the highway but in a different

section. You can actually smell the musty old buildings from a good distance away.

The hydroelectric turbine is still working. It's actually very loud. The water is rushing out from under the building like its an open wound.

I haven't taken many notes today. I'm spent. I took too much time recording video to pay much attention to the nuance of whats happening around me. Also,

I totally lost my (audio) recorder. I thought I left it under the highway, under a pizza box. When I found it, it was moved. I'll have to check the recording later.

I thought I was heading out but I want to get as much as possible. The town is defined by contamination. Its important to get the town and not just the

monstrosity of the mill.

I just took a photo of a small strip plaza with the Facemate building in the background. The light was unbeatable. I'm going to be upset if I have some dev issue or

light leak. There are these streamers hanging across the parking lot, strung up on the light posts. People are looking at me weird. I assume not many people

photograph around here. This might be my favorite shot from the shoot.

note: find a way to add that picture into the video. Maybe at the end? I didn't get enough footage for it to make sense.
