CERCLA PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION
Robbie Maynard is a Massachusetts based photographer and visual storyteller whose
work focuses on the relationship between people and the landscapes they shape.
Working primarily in documentary photography, environmental portraiture, and
landscapes, his photographs often explore places where human intervention and the
natural world collide.
Alongside his photography, Robbie shares much of his process through YouTube,
where he creates videos centered around documentary storytelling, fieldwork, and
analog photography. His channel gives viewers a closer look at the work behind the
images, from photographing remote locations to discussing the ideas that shape
long-term projects.
Through his photography, Robbie wants to make his YouTube videos feel like a living,
breathing journal entry. An entry that blurs the lines between mediums. Often times
allowing for the natural soundscape to proceed, uninterrupted. The photographs and
video elements act as a call and response, in places where the video asks a question,
the photo will answer.
In this style, Robbie has taken queues from artists that inspire him through their visual
storytelling. Noting books like Mitch Epstein’s Family Business and Larry Sultan’s
Pictures from Home as key motivators in blending multiple forms of documentation.
Among the multi-media approach, Robbie includes his soundtrack to bring to life
the photographs and video. This is an artist who has made every aspect of what you are
seeing and hearing.
